Who we are

Nexus is a purpose-built Innovation Centre at the heart of the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland. Nexus seeks to develop and sustain a vibrant entrepreneurial eco-system, which: leverages the University's knowledge base; enables accelerated business development; and makes connections with potential investors, experienced entrepreneurs and the wider community.

What we do

Nexus enables the accelerated development of national and international startups with global reach and the commercialisation of academic research resulting in the creation of new businesses and jobs.

Pioneering and Connected: University of Limerick and Nexus

The Nexus Innovation Centre is an integral element of the Univeristy of Limerick's Technology Transfer Office (TTO).   Paul Dillon, Director of the TTO, University of Limerick says "The University of Limerick’s Strategic Plan is written at a time when rapid social change and a fast-moving policy agenda pose new challenges to universities. Our vision is to be internationally known as a distinctive, pioneering and connected institution that provides outstanding student experiences, actively engages in research and is globally and locally connected in terms of its contribution to economic, social and cultural life.

By focusing on convergent translational research, fertile new fields of knowledge will emerge and the application of research outputs will be accelerated. We will achieve this goal by collaborating with strategic partners; contributing to social and economic development through the rapid translation of research and promoting a culture of entrepreneurship. We will, adopt a knowledge transfer and commercialisation strategy that enhances our contribution to economic and social development and provide incentives for convergent research initiatives.

To promote job creation and economic development, we will collaborate with industry, engage in incubation activities, enhance skill levels and create spin-out companies. The Nexus Innovation Centre is the physical representation of our vision and strategic plan for our contribution to regional development. It provides a gateway for the external community to tap into the knowledge and intellection capital of this institution and will act as a catalyst in the region for innovation and job creation."

Origins of the name 'Nexus'

The name Nexus is drawn from the Latin ‘nectere’ meaning to bind together or connect.  This inspired us in many ways but in particularly the idea of building a vibrant entrepreneurial eco-system which is based on strong life-long human relationships, the formal and informal exchange of knowledge and extended time spent over coffee.
