Startup company at UL’s Nexus Innovation Centre in IBYE National Final

Start-up company Piggyback, based in the Nexus Innovation Centre in UL, has won a place at this year’s Ireland’s Best Young Entrepreneur (IBYE) National Final. Regional Winner for Best Idea IBYE 2015, PiggyBack uses cloud-based technology to provide taxi operators and drivers with insight into driver performance, demand hotspots and route efficiency.

Nexus Centre Manager Gert O’Rourke comments “the path of a start-up entrepreneur is risky and difficult to navigate. We are delighted to see companies like Deviate Aspire and Piggyback incubating in a startup environment with like-minded entrepreneurs, leveraging their network to get feedback and support. Competitions like IBYE provide endorsement and independent validation of their development plans particularly at the nascent and startup stage”.

PiggyBack is the world’s first cloud-based ride-demand intelligence platform for taxi operators and city managers. PiggyBack’s first product is a mobile and desktop application for Taxi operators and individual drivers to assist them with getting more fares, improve efficiency and service and boosting revenue as a result. PiggyBack has offices in University of Limerick at the Nexus Innovation Centre and a secondary office in San Francisco, CA. The product is at Beta stage of development and is undergoing pilot testing. A soft launch is planned in January 2016.
